Tobogganing and Ski Tours

No matter if you want to experience East Tyrol's mountain-world uphill on skis or if you prefer the comfortable way downhill on a toboggan - East Tyrol offers numerous possibilities.

Toboggan-fun in East Tyrol

Tobogganing is a great alternative to skiing. East Tyrol is a great basis for this sport as already in the end of November, on a height around 1000m, there is snow in abundance.

35 partly illuminated toboggan-runs and managed Cottages provide toboggan-fun to all generations till late at night. We especially recommend the Toboggan-run from Dolomitenhütte to Tristach (partially illuminated), at Kals am Großglockner (Moaralm), in Hochpustertal (Leckfeldalm), in Defereggental (Alpe Stalle-Hütte) or in Virgental (Würfele Hütte). You can also enjoy the nature-toboggan-run at Lienz Schloßberg, which leads you from Moos-Alm directly to the city. Almost everywhere you can hire toboggan-taxis or take a chairlift to the start of the toboggan-run.

Ski tour "El Dorado" East Tyrol

In East Tyrol there are almost 200 mountains higher than 3000m and 1500 square kilometers of untouched nature and stunning landscapes. In East Tyrol you will also find numerous ski tour destinations.

Very special highlights are waiting for you in the region of the national park Hohe Tauern. Approximately half of East Tyrol lies above 2000m and there are 241 mountains higher than 3000m. About 100 square kilometers are glaciated - exclusively in the national park area.

Ice-skating and cross-country skiing

East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia provide up to 400 kilometers of primed cross-country ski runs, on which you can explore our unique landscape and beauty of our region. Additionally, the Weißensee provides the largest natural ice rink of the Alps.

Ice-skating and cross-country skiing in East Tyrol

Families will enjoy the natural ice rink of Lake Tristach, 4 kilometers away from Lienz. This natural ice rink offers a lot of space for children and their parents, in order to go ice-skating in the quiet nature. Ice-skating on the ice rink of Lake Tristach is free.

There are many things to experience on cross-country skiing tours in East Tyrol: 400 kilometers of cross-country ski runs are awaiting you. East Tyrol's location above 1000m, makes it perfect for many winter sports.

Ice-skating and cross-country skiing at Weißensee

With an up to 58cm thick ice sheet, Weißensee provides between December and March, on about 80 days, the largest ice rink of the Alps. There you can perform sports such as ice-skating, ice speed skating, curling and ice hockey. Sometimes you can also encounter horse-drawn sleighs and winter hikers which enjoy the untouched nature.

Moreover, the fog free Sonnenhochtal Weißensee, is a real paradise for cross-country skiing. 50 kilometers of cross-country ski runs lead from 930 to 1400m sea level.
